Peninsula Medical Associates is a boutique, physician-led clinical team serving pilots, injured workers, employers, and safety-sensitive professionals throughout the Bay Area. We provide thorough, thoughtful, and compassionate care that helps people move forward with clarity, dignity, and support.
Dr. Maung is a triple board-certified physician specializing in Occupational Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and Clinical Informatics. He completed his residency at Johns Hopkins University and holds a Master of Public Health, with advanced training in injury prevention, workplace health, and addiction care.
He provides specialized medical evaluations for commercial drivers, airmen, and injured workers — including FAA flight physicals, HIMS AME monitoring, QME and IME evaluations, fitness-for-duty assessments, and addiction medicine consultations.
Dr. Lisa Zacharewicz — known affectionately to patients and staff as "Dr. Z" — brings old-school heart to modern occupational medicine. With over 30 years of experience dedicated to caring for injured workers, she is known not only for her clinical skill, but for the time she takes to truly listen, understand, and advocate for each person she treats.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Dr. Z brings a grounded, compassionate perspective to her work. She believes an injury doesn't happen in a vacuum — and takes into account each patient's background, job demands, and environment when planning care. She has helped thousands of workers safely recover and return to work, often serving as a trusted guide through both medical recovery and the workers' compensation system.
Wen Soon is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor specializing in behavioral health, substance use recovery, and psychological resilience — for people navigating both the professional and personal weight of significant health events.
Embedded within our clinical team, Wen works alongside our physicians to address what medical evaluation alone can't fully capture. Whether a patient is working through a substance use history, rebuilding after a workplace injury, or processing the stress of a career-defining diagnosis — Wen helps them develop the insight, skills, and behavioral foundation needed to move forward and return to full function.
His background in substance use treatment and crisis intervention makes him a particularly strong fit for safety-sensitive professionals. But at its core, his work is about one thing: helping people get unstuck and get back to living and working at their best.
Peninsula Medical Associates brings together physicians and a behavioral health clinician under one roof — because occupational health, addiction medicine, and psychological wellness are rarely separate problems. Our team is built to treat the whole picture.
Conveniently located in downtown San Mateo, serving the Peninsula, the Bay Area, and patients traveling for specialty evaluations.
